BC Explorer

BC Explorer is an interactive promotional tool that was first launched in 2006 for the Torino Winter Games. By providing a 'virtual fly thru' of BC using satellite mapping (similar to Google maps) users can explore the province’s terrain, rivers, oceans and ‘touch down’ to visit our communities. While stopping in a community, a user can watch 20-30 sec videos on the area, finding out all the great reasons to Live, Work, Play and Invest in that city or town.

Since its launch in 2006, the BC Explorer program has expanded to include enhanced mapping technology and a wide range of communities available for users to discover. The program works directly with communities to identify, film and develop the very best of their area to showcase to a world audience.

Program Objectives:

  • Actively promote a broad range of BC communities to the world by showcasing four key categories: Live, Work, Play & Invest
  • Utilize leading technology to create an engaging, visually stimulating, interactive experience for BC Explorer users

Partnerships:

The Secretariat has developed key partnerships with the Union of British Columbia Municipalities, Western Economic Diversification, Northern Development Initiative Trust and Island Coastal Economic Trust to maximize reach across the province and ensure the greatest participation in both the BC Explorer and BC Stories programs for our communities.
