City of Vancouver

The City of Vancouver is working with other levels of government and members of the community to develop an inclusive and sustainable 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games that will benefit all residents, particularly those in the inner-city. Please visit their website (vancouver.ca/olympics) for more program information.

  • Host a City Happening Program
City Happenings are activities, events and legacy projects taking place throughout Vancouver neighbourhoods in the time period leading up to and during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Some ‘happenings’ will occur after the Games.

The Host a City Happening Community Grant Program is just the ticket local groups and residents need to take advantage of the burgeoning enthusiasm and excitement for the 2010 Winter Games and Vancouver’s role as Host City. This is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for community groups and cultural organizations to initiate a special event or activity – a Happening – and receive financial support from the City of Vancouver. One-of-a-kind legacy projects will also be considered. For more information on City Happenings, visit vancouver.ca/olympics.

  • Live City Vancouver
Planning continues on Live City Vancouver, two downtown live sites at David Lam Park and Georgia Street, respectively. When completed, these sites will feature free and family friendly live main stage entertainment, giant broadcast screens, sponsor activities and the opportunity to mingle with guests and athletes from around the world.

  • The City and the Park Board approved a Youth Legacy Framework and Action Plan based on the input and involvement of youth, community agencies, arts, sports and cultural organizations, and local and provincial sport organizations. Now branded as the "Get Out" program, it is a comprehensive approach, integrating the whole community and the whole person, in mind, body and spirit, through recreation, culture, active living and youth involvement.
